History
Led by the fierce Twi'lek pirate Feye Gahst, the Sand Vipers were formed when the former slave Gahst took possession of her master's shipping business. Beginning as a simple trading outfit based out of Mos Eisley, Gahst began running contraband for criminals like Jabba the Hutt. However, she recognized the inherent danger in working for slaver Hutt, and began spending less and less time on Tatooine, moving their base of operations to Lok. Determined that she would not fall prey to those with power again, she set about amassing her own power base.
Just months before the Battle of Yavin, she and her outfit pulled off a daring raid on the planet of Narg, stealing a carrier vessel that berthed some twenty export grade TransGalMeg Vaksai starfighters.
Not satisfied with her new acquisitions, the brazen Gahst carried out a an even more daring raid, boarding and capturing a new Nebulon-B frigate as it docked at the infamous Umber Scales Station. They rechristened the vessel the Viper's Nest and modified it to act as a mobile headquarters.
Rebel Sympathies
Though she was already registered as a known pirate on Imperial records, she and the Sand Vipers as they had become known were listed as top priority targets, and though they had no association with the Rebel Alliance, were listed as Rebel agents.
With common ties on Tatooine, and a common enemy in the Imperial Navy, the violent Twi'lek formed an unlikely alliance with the Rebel Line Admiral Ieheeloonea Gaivee. Though the Sand Vipers maintained their piratical ways, they preyed more and more on Imperial shipping lanes, providing extra punch and valuable information to the Rebel Alliance.
Viper's Strike
In 1ABY, despite the fears of some in the organization that the Vipers were becoming too entangled in the civil war, Feye took the Viper's Nest and their squadron of fighters into the Battle of Fondor. There they engaged Imperial forces head on as they assisted the 13th Roving Line in the raid.
After the operation, Feye became more and more associated with the Rebel Alliance, and was even given a field commission by Admiral Ieheeloonea Gaivee. Though this rankled some of her underlings, they continued to follow her even as they retreated to the uncharted starlanes of the Unknown Regions.
Death of the Vipers
The Sand Vipers were with the Star Tide as it discovered the derelict Praetor-Class Battlecruiser Vanquisher, and assisted as salvage operations began. When the strange and violent lifeforms guarding the cruiser were discovered, the Viper's nest was boarded and overrun. Before she was killed by a massive alien warrior, Feye set a course into the Nest's helm. The ship collided with the massive battlecruiser, destroying the frigate, damaging the cruiser, and killing most of the aliens. Though everyone on board was killed, their sacrifice allowed the fleet to escape.
Return of the Vipers
Soon after the demise of the Viper's Nest and most of the Sand Vipers, a few surviving pirates formed a group known as the Red Nebula Corsairs. This short-lived organization was later bought out and contracted to the Starwind Eclipse Syndicate. In honor of the sacrifice in deep space, the CEO of SES created a fighter squadron named the Vipers led by former Sand Viper and Red Nebula Corsair pilot, Sigfryd Starfang.
